Preparation and x-ray crystal structure of the anion [Sn 2Co 5Cl 2(CO) 19] − as the bis[tris(1-pyrazolyl)borate]- cobalt(III), Co[HB(pz) 3] 2+, salt

Abstract

Interaction of the tris(pyrazolyl)borate anion, HB(pz) 3 − with ClSn[Co(CO) 4] 3 gives as a major product the novel anion [Sn 2Co 5Cl 2(CO) 19] − with Co[HB(pz) 3] + as the counterion. An X-ray crystal structure analysis (monoclinic, C2/ c, a 27.325, b 9.516, c 23.316 Å, ft 113.51°, Z = 4, R = 0.043 for 2839 reflections with I > 2.5σ ( I)) shows the anion to have two ClSn(Co(CO) 4] 2 Groups trans to one another about a planar Co(CO) 3 fragment, while the cation contains Co 111 octahedrally coordinated by the two tridentate tris(pyrazolyl)borate ligands.
