Abstract
Solutions of autoclaved pectin, designed to be useful as a blood‐plasma extender, have been clarified by centrifugation and use of bacterial filters. Filtration rates and effectiveness of several types of filters are evaluated. Storage studies showed that these solutions can be kept at least two years under refrigeration with little change. At body temperature and the pH of blood, the degradation of pectin into smaller molecules is relatively faster, which may be of importance in promoting elimination at a satisfactory rate and preventing harmful effects.
