Abstract

Hydridotosylato complexes Cp 2 MH(OTs) [M  Mo ( 3a) and W ( 3b)] have been synthesized by the treatment of [Cp 2 MH 3] +OTs − either thermally (M  Mo) or with acetone (M  W) and are characterized spectroscopically. Complex 3a is so reactive that its reaction with methanol afforded the cationic adduct [CP 2 MoH(MeOH)] + OTs −. However, 3b did not react with alcohol but reacted with RO − to yield the corresponding alkoxo complexes Cp 2WH(OR). Complexes 3 also reacted with tertiary phosphines to give the cationic monohydrido complexes [CP 2MH(PR 3)] +OTs −.
