Abstract

The porous microcarriers of sodium alginate/platelet rich plasma-MgO2 (SA/PRP-MgO2) were prepared using an emulsion method combined with a freeze-drying method. The effects of the content of MgO2 on the morphology of the microcarriers, swelling ratio, and oxygen release were studied. The results showed all porous microcarriers with various contents of MgO2 showed an interconnective porous structure, with an average particle size of 150–350 μm. The pore size, swelling ratio, and oxygen release of the microcarriers increased with increasing content of MgO2 in the microcarriers. Therefore, MgO2 may be used to overcome hypoxia in the SA/PRP porous microcarriers and to improve oxygen distribution for longer cell viability.
