Abstract

Highly-porous nano zirconium molybdate-99Mo (Zr99Mo) gels were precipitated by a simple new radiochemical process from mixtures of molybdate(VI)-99Mo and ZrOCl2·8H2O solutions in the presence of urea under different conditions, using non-hydrothermal and hydrothermal routes. The prepared 99Mo/99mTc chromatographic column generator based on the best optimum nano Zr99Mo gel (crystallite size determined by XRD was 22.0 nm, particle size determined by TEM was ~ 33 nm and pore size determined by BET method was < 1044 A) showed a good performance; 99mTc eluted with a yield of 86 ± 2%, 99Mo breakthrough of 1 × 10−3%, radiochemical purity of 97.5%.
