Abstract

The mixed-metal carbonyl cluster [( η 5-C 5H 4CH 3)MoFeCo(CO) 6( μ, η 4-Ph 2PCH 2 CH 2PPh 2) ( μ 3-S)] ( 2) has been prepared by the substituent reaction of [( η 5-C 5H 4CH 3) MoFeCo(CO) 8( μ 3-S )] ( 1) with 1, 2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane (Ph 2PCH 2CH 2PPh 2). The title cluster has been characterized by elemental analyses, IR and 1H NMR spectroscopy. Its structure, confirmed by X-ray crystallography, shows that the bidentate ligand Ph 2PCH 2CH 2PPh 2 bridges the Fe-Co bond. The result can be used to explain the active catalytic sites on the cluster for hydroformylation.
