Abstract

Photochromic gelatin nanofibers were fabricated by electrospinning the complex of gelatin and 1′,3′,3′-trimethyl-6-nitrospiro (2H-1-benzopyran-2,2′-indoline) (NOSP). In order to improve the mechanical properties, gelatin/NOSP nanofibers were crosslinked using glutaraldehyde (GTA) vapor. The physicochemical properties and photochromic properties were investigated. Through monitoring the color change and the water contact angle of the gelatin/NOSP nanofibrous mats, the reversible photochromic property of the nanofibers was investigated. The results of ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectrophotometry and fluorescence microscopy indicated that NOSP could endow electrospun fibers with good photochromic and fluorescent properties.
