Abstract

Powdermetallurgical procedures for preparing bulk YBa 2Cu 3O 7−x with statistical or strongly textured grain orientation are described. The influence of the preparation conditions on the microstructure and the physical properties is studied. The characterization of samples with ϱ(100 K) as low as 147 μωcm and densities > 95% includes the determination of T c, lattice parameter, X-ray peak profile analysis, oxygen content, elemental distribution, density, microstructure and electrical resistivity. The measurement of the critical current density is essential to the characterization of these materials. For textured samples, inductively measured J c values for magnetic fields parallel and perpendicular to the textured surface show substantial differences.
