Abstract

The dispersion of TiO 2 on γ-Al 2O 3 in two series of TiO 2–Al 2O 3 binary oxides prepared by vapour deposition and liquid-phase impregnation of TiCl 4 was studied using electrophoretic migration measurements of the isoelectric point. Vapour-deposited titania was found to be highly dispersed, forming monolayers on the alumina surface at loadings below 7 wt.-% titanium; formation of TiO 2 multilayers occurred at titanium loadings greater than 7 wt.-%. Liquid-phase impregnation produced lower surface coverage of TiO 2 multilayers.
