Abstract

Proper preoperative preparation of the patient for laser skin resurfacing entails several steps. Of primary importance is patient education about the options, risks, and benefits of the procedure, the procedure itself, and the postoperative course. In addition, the skin may benefit from a topical regimen implemented before laser resurfacing. Finally, appropriate perioperative medications need to be prescribed, and patients should be educated about the required immediate postoperative wound care. Well-educated and prepared patients are less anxious, and procedures and recovery periods run more smoothly.
