This disorder has been called "failure to release ADP [adenosine 5′-diphosphate]" and is characterized by normal coagulation studies, normal platelet counts, variable prolongation of the bleeding time, poor platelet retention in glass-bead filters (platelet adhesivity), and decreased aggregation of platelets by collagen and epinephrine. Platelet aggregation by exogenous adenosine 5′-diphosphate is usually normal.Our report describes an additional case and documents correction of the defect by platelet transfusions during a surgical procedure.The patient, a...
