Abstract

(Am J Obstet Gynecol. 2018;218:353.e1–353.e4) Acetaminophen is thought to inhibit central pain receptor sites, which may lead to an overall reduction in perception of pain. Thus, it is possible that the use of preoperative intravenous (IV) acetaminophen could decrease the use of opioids after cesarean delivery. In the present study, the authors evaluated the effects of a preoperative IV dose of acetaminophen on maternal opioid use after cesarean delivery, postdelivery length of stay, pain scores on postoperative days 1 and 2, and acetaminophen levels in cord blood.
