Abstract

Artorpus styracifolius Pierre, arbor of the genus Artocarpus (Moraceae), is mainly distributed in several southern provinces of China and is also called “Hongfenghe”. The root of A. styracifolius was used to treat disease in folk medicine. In this study, two new prenylated 2-arylbenzofurans, namely astostyracins D and E (1 – 2, resp), together with a known one (3), were isolated from the root of A. styracifolius. Their structures were determined by spectroscopic methods (1D and 2D NMR, UV, IR, and HR-ESI-MS). These compounds will be tested for their inhibitory effect on Cathepsin K.
