Abstract

Intra-abdominal cystic masses in the fetus are often renal or ovarian in origin. Fetal ovarian cysts are relatively common and are usually small. Large ovarian cysts have the same potential for hemorrhage and torsion as their adult counterparts. The fetus is additionally at risk for lung compression and postnatal respiratory distress from large intra-abdominal masses.
