Abstract
Each year in the UK around 300 babies are born with the genetic disease cystic fibrosis. In 4 out of 5 births there is no family history of the disorder and the parents of these children understandably ask ‘why us?’ This article outlines different aspects of the disease and the role that midwives play in delivering prescreening information and counseling.
