Abstract

Test areas, 4×8 in., located on the muzzles of cattle infested with Solenopotes capillatus Enderlain were used to evaluate the effectiveness of 25 chemicals to control this louse. The procedure consisted of spraying 10 ml of a 0.5% acetone solution on the test area. Methoxychlor was used as the standard for comparison. Four chemicals: American Cyanamid 12503, O,O -dicthyl O -[6-(3(2-phenyl)-pyridazinonyl)] phosphorothioate; General Chemical 3582, 2,2-dichloro-1-(2,5-dichlorophenyl)vinyl diethyl phosphate; Famophos® O-p -(dimethylsulfamoyl)phenyl O,O -dimethyl phosphorothioate; and Bayer 37342, O,O -dimethyl O -4-(methylthio-3,5-xylyl phosphorothioate excelled the standard in preventing reinfestation of the test area.
