Preliminary Study: Panel Test of Brief Assessment of Cognition in Schizophrenia (BACS) Bahasa Version

Abstract

Cognitive function in patients with schizophrenia may be affected by multi factors, which will also affect their language ability to understand the instrument’s rules. Panel test was held in June until August 2017, comparing ten patients schizophrenia in remission (test group) with ten controlled psychiatric residents to understand BACS Bahasa version’s rules. Data was presented descriptively. Compared to controlled residents, one participant of test group failed to understand meaning half of words list in verbal memory. Six participants of test group also failed to understand the letter fluency’s rule by keep mentioning word begin with capital letter as example and five participants in test group also asked what kind of word that they can mention. In Tower of London, two participants in controlled group and four from test group need to use the props to understand the rules. Two participants from test group also need longer than 20 second for each item in this test. There is evidence that language ability may be affected in schizophrenia group. This evidence may increase difficulty in conducting the next test and simplifying the rules need to be done especially in Tower of London section.
