Abstract

The biological activity of metabolites in the filtrates of some moulds, previously isolated from grain, showed effective “germ” toxication of high germinating malting grain. Other fungal filtrates exhibited marked stimulative effect on germination. Both effects were inconsistently demonstrated by many fungal metabolites, irrespective of soaking duration. Some fungal metabolites induced rudimentary roots which resumed normal healthy growth when soaked in sterile water.
