Abstract

The postlarvae(PL6)of tiger shrimp Penaeus monodon were cultured in arecirculation,a recirculation system added with nitrifier or a semi-static system.Parameters of wter quality, growth and survival of the shrimps were monitoredfor 21 days. The results indicated that the concentrations of ammonia-N,NH3-N,nitrite-N,nitrate-N,orthophosphate-P,total-P,COD in the recirculationsystem was lower than those in the semi-static system. The body weight ofof the shrimps did not differ significantly between two systems. However, the postlarvae reared in the recirculation system had higher survival thanthose in the semi-static system.Adding nitrifying bacteria in the recirculationsystem helps reduce ammonia and nitrite.
