Abstract

BACKGROUND. The communication between space crews and outside monitoring personnel in Mission Control gives us valuable information about crewmember psychological health. Experience from long-term Russian space missions has shown a good, and often only, source of data about the psychological state and interrelations of the crewmembers is through the communication between the space crews and Mission Control. For many years the group of psychologists at the Medical Center of Space Flight Control (TCUMOKO) at the Institute for Biomedical Problems (IMBP) in Moscow is analyzing audio communication sessions of Russian space crews on “Mir” and International Space Stations in order to estimate their psychophysiological health and behavior.
