Abstract

Studies of the influence of uniaxial compression on the direction of remanent magnetization acquired during chemical changes were carried out on rocks containing goethite, siderite and pyrrhotite. One of a pair essentially identical samples was heated to 400 ° C, the second sample was heated to the same temperature (T) and compressed (P) along the Z direction of the sample coordinate system during heating and cooling. Remanence was acquired in an ambient, laboratory field which was nearly vertical. Remanence acquired under compression has a lower inclination than remanence acquired without compression. Deviation of the direction of CRM(T,P) from the direction of compression depends on the degree of anisotropy.
