Abstract

As a result of the accident on 30 September 1999 at Tokaimura, Japan the IAEA were asked from numerous sources for information regarding the accident. Thus a preliminary report has now been issued which looks at the technical information available at that time. It does not provide conclusions on the cause or the overall consequences. The report is based on information made available by the Japanese authorities; however the IAEA team also commented independently on the structural integrity of the building and the radiological measurements. The report acknowledges that the information to date may well change as more facts and analysis become available.
