Abstract

Globally, the construction sector has witnessed an apparent shift towards green building technology, due to its great potential in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emission. Green building design, assessment, and documentation depends on various disjointed analyses, required to meet different sustainability performances and standards. Nevertheless, the emergence of Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology has paved way for digital construction of complicated buildings, generating accurate information for building design, construction, and assessment throughout its life cycle. Integrating BIM and sustainability rating tools such as Malaysian Carbon Reduction and Environmental Sustainability Tool (MyCREST), enables the project team to make sustainable analyses and decisions at the conceptual stage of the green building. Despite the connectivity, there is no standard workflow for BIM-based modelling especially for green building design and assessment in Malaysia till date. Moreover, MyCREST certification is done manually, resulting to missing data, subjective decisions, and waste of time and resources. Therefore, this review paper proposes the integration of BIM and MyCREST, focusing on MyCREST design category. This is achieved by reviewing relevant literature on sustainable construction, MyCREST reference guideline, functionalities of BIM software (Autodesk Revit), etc. After the systematic literature review, the need for the synergies between BIM and MyCREST in Malaysian construction industry was identified. This concept of integrating BIM and MyCREST is significant due to the unique approach it proposes to design efficiently, and automatically fulfil MyCREST certification of green building in Malaysia.
