Abstract
Bulbine annua, B. asphodeloides, Aloe saponaria and A. africana were investigated phytochemically. Aloe–emodin and chrysophanol were isolated from B. annua and shown to be present in B. asphodeloides by means of paper and thinlayer chromatography. The presence of chrysophanol in A. saponaria and homonataloin in A. africana were detected with the aid of thinlayer and paper chromatography.
