Abstract

Lower extremity amputation incision complications contribute significantly to patient morbidity and increase healthcare costs. In a previous randomized clinical trial, we demonstrated the beneficial effect of negative pressure therapy for closed groin incisions in reducing complications. The present study prospectively evaluated negative pressure dressing as a method to decrease the incidence of wound complications related to major lower extremity amputations.
