Abstract

The considerable interest proven by industries towards the implementation of environmental management systems is motivated by the fact that an effective control of pollution cannot be achieved only by technical solutions. Although a voluntary adopted standard, ISO 14001 brings by its implementation a variety of benefits (environmental, financial, market position). This study presents the preliminary actions developed in a Synthetic Yarns and Fibers Plant in order to prepare the company towards ISO 14001 implementation. This factory has already implemented the Quality Management System according to ISO 9001 and as the next important phase is concerned about the improvement of environmental performances. Considering its production processes the main emissions and their environmental impacts are analyzed, the needed resources are discussed and an environmental policy is proposed.
