Abstract

• A patient with typhoid fever experienced transient prekallikrein deficiency during the acute phase of his illness. Thrombocytopenia frequently occurs in typhoid fever, and this, together with prekallikrein deficiency, may lead to changes in laboratory test results that can easily be confused with overt disseminated intravascular coagulation. Mechanisms underlying these changes and their clinical importance are briefly discussed. (Arch Intern Med1981;141:1701-1703)
