Abstract

Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) is used in an effort to decrease spontaneous abortion, prevent the birth of aneuploid offspring and to potentially increase implantation by removing genetically abnormal embryos from the pool of embryos to be transferred. All currently available information regarding rates of aneuploidy among human preimplantation embryos comes from PGD of embryos of people with impaired fertility. In this population, aneuploidy screening is suggested for women with recurrent pregnancy loss, the transfer of good quality embryos without achieving a viable pregnancy or women of advanced maternal age.
