Abstract

To reduce the Lp-gas consumption in a light metal foundry a ceramic-heat exchanger was installed in combination with a high-temperature burner on the melting furnace. Measured parameters among others were: LP-gas flow, combustion air temperature and flue-gas temperature. The measured data was collected by a datalogger and transferred to both a paper tape and a printer. The measurements were carried out during a period of 5 days, including a weekend, to get control over the holding period. The results indicate that the total efficiency increased from 29 to 42% an increase of 45%.
