Abstract

Six hundred forty-five renal Tx were carried out at SIUT, of which 131 (22%) were females. After excluding unmarried, divorced, and menopausal women and women who expired during the first year of Tx, there were 50 females for potential pregnancy. Of these, 20 conceived 27 times. All of them were on cyclosporine (CyA) and prednisolone as immunosuppressives, and 80% were also taking azathioprine as a third drug. Duration of post-Tx, presence or occurrence of hypertension, episodes of urinary tract infection (UTI), rejection episodes, outcome of pregnancy, mode of delivery, and renal functions after childbirth were studied in these patients. CyA levels were measured using whole blood monoclonal assays by the therapeutic drug analyser (TDX) method.
