Abstract

Two infant rhesus monkeys were tested in terms of contact time for preference among four surrogate mothers with different body surfaces. Durations of contact differed significantly among the surrogate surfaces, which ranked from greatest to least time in the following order: cotton sock, rayon and vinyl (equal), and sandpaper. The results indicate that infant monkeys have clear-cut preferences among surrogate surfaces.
