Preface Anthony Butler (bio) and Roger Southall (bio) This special issue of Transformation is the outcome of a project on 'The Sub-National Politics of the ANC' conducted under the auspices of the Society, Work and Development Institute (SWOP) of the University of the Witwatersrand.
