Abstract

Dear Readers,The sixth National Conference on Engineering physics and the 1st international conference on Applied Physics Engineering & Innovation (www.ingenieriafisica.co) was held at Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) in Bucaramanga between the 22nd to the 26th of October 2018. Both were organized by Colombian Society of Engineering Physics (SCIF) in collaboration with UIS, EAFIT, Universidad National de Colombia and Universidad de los Andes. From his early days, SCIF has aimed to connect the engineering and science community through the novel and latest advances in Material synthesis, manufacturing, characterization tools, Infrastructure and innovative applications and also self-reflection on how are we aligning our projects to the industry demand, including the visualization of the upcoming challenges brought by the evolving of technologies.350 participants joined in a two days 8 short courses and a two days actively participation in 8 key note international (Brazil, Mexico and United States) and 5 National lectures (Bogotá, Medellin, Manizales, Cauca and Pereira), 150 oral presentations and 180 poster presentations. The conference was held in challenging times for our education environment, student movements focused on raising the awareness of lack of investment in public education. During the conference speakers and attendants always engage in constructive dialogues with representatives of the students groups on to improve the quality of education, some of whom also attended/participated the conferences activities. In and outside the conference rooms Education was the common roots of specialized discussions and a connecting life wire to demonstrate who leading engineering scientist were informed on how students put into practice their solving problem skills in the socio-political context. Social and science demonstrations in parallel allow to understand the culture and offers new perspectives on the need of supporting our innovation and economy development on science and engineering advances and evolution.List of Conference photos available in this PDF.
