Abstract

This book is only a slight modification of lecture notes from a course given by the author at Stanford University during the Spring and Summer quarters of 1964. The elementary theory of functions of a single complex variable is recalled briefly. The main reason for this is to introduce the central problems in a familiar case as a guide for the general case. It develops the facts concerning subharmonic functions which are needed. This chapter discusses the classical facts concerning power series expansions, domains of holomorphy, and pseudoconvex domains.
