Abstract

Utilization of space-related technology ranging from communication to navigation has become an inseparable aspect of modern human civilization. Its practice shall be supported by sufficient understanding of the space environment which is mainly driven by magnetically active Sun and governed by the dynamics of magnetosphere and ionosphere. Beyond the near-Earth space environment, the universe keeps unraveled mysteries to solve. Continuous efforts in space science research have been conducted recently and the expansion of our knowledge on space is progressing even though there is a global fluctuation due to COVID-19 pandemic. Following the success of the first International Symposium on Space Science (ISSS) two years ago, Research Organization for Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN) held The 2nd ISSS on 15 November 2021 to gather researchers in space science from around the world. To share new knowledge and to foster collaboration will be the objectives of this event. This year, the theme raised is Fostering Collaboration in Space Science Research For the Advancement of Knowledge and For the Humanity since the ultimate mission of scientific research is to advance science and to create a better life. The 2nd 2021 was organized from the office of Research Center for Space, LAPAN in Bandung, Indonesia and held virtually through web conferencing platform considering high cases of COVID-19 around the globe. Nevertheless, it has received an overwhelming response in term of number of registered participant. The total participant attending this virtual symposium reach 129 people. It consists of 72 speakers and 57 participant. Most of them were from Indonesia and small of it were from USA, India, Russia, Nigeria, Brazil, Serbia, Spain, Hongkong, Philippines, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Malaysia, and Japan. We decided that the speakers could only present their work in oral for 10 minutes. After 3 or 2 speakers delivered their research, we accommodated question and answer sessions for 10 minutes for these speakers. Furthermore, we facilitate their works to be published at a journal with peer-reviewed process. We have reviewed all accepted manuscripts by experts in space science field. One manuscript is reviewed by one reviewer and the handling editor decided weather a manuscript can be accepted or rejected mainly based on the reviewer’s comments. Of 37 manuscripts submitted to our symposium, 32 manuscripts was proceed to publication process and suitable for scientific publication. We want to thank participants and speakers who attend and support the 2nd ISSS 2021. Also, we thank to scientific committee and reviewers for their precious time, and lastly many thanks to the local organizing committee for the hard work so that the 2nd ISSS 2021 can be done successfully. See you all in the next ISSS!List of Local organizing committee, Scientific committee, List of participants, Photos are available in this pdf.
