Abstract

The Bloodshed of the Peking-Hankou Workers describes the events surrounding the strike by the railway workers on the Peking-Hankou line in February 1923. It was compiled by Mr. Luo Zhanglong who was one of those involved in the strike as well as a member of the communist-controlled Chinese Labour Secretariat. The defeat of the strike dealt a bitter blow to the young labour movement in China and convinced the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) that the party could rely on the strength of the proletariat alone to wage its revolutionary war.
