Preface

Abstract

Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) has contributed to the agricultural industry development in North Sumatera Province through education and research. The education is not only for student, but also for the societies in North Sumatera Province through the extension program. The extension program, through non-formal education, had increased the educational level of farmer and agricultural productivity. As a matter of fact, the extension program which give hands on training and better farming methods to farmers, seems to have a greater impact on agricultural productivity than the formal education.The industrial revolution 4.0 will play the new strategic role for agricultural growth. It is not only the farmer, but also the university need to learn, adapt and conduct researches with the current trends of technology, in order to achieve, improve and create the sustainable agriculture development. The agricultural industry depends largely on the advancement of research technology and transfer of technology to farmers.AEFS is a conference organized by Faculty of Agriculture USU which aimed to to offer the opportunity for knowledge sharing, networking and collaboration between engineers, scientists and technologists as well as academician and researchers working in the specific areas of agriculture, social economics, biosystem engineering and food technology. AEFS International Conference has been held yearly since 2017. The AEFS Conference deliberations for the last two year were on the following themes: agriculture, plantation and livestock for world food security (AEFS 2017) prospects and challenges of sustainable agriculture to improve food security and environment (AEFS 2018). For the 3rd AEFS 2019., the committee has chosen “Challenges on Food Security and Sovereignty in the Industrial Era 4.0” as the main theme, with 6 selected tracks including Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Economics, Plant Science (Agronomy and Plantation, Plant Breeding, Biotechnology, Integrated Pest Management and Soil Science), Animal Science, Food Science and Technology, Marine and Fisheries Sciences. This conference is organized by The Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) as an annual event to celebrate the faculty anniversary and fully supported by Czech University of Life Sciences, Prague (CULS), The Institution of Engineers Indonesia (IEI/PII), Indonesian Society of Agricultural Economics (ISAE/PERHEPI), Komisariat Daerah Sumatera Utara, Indonesian Association of Nutrition and Feed Science (AINI) and Indonesian Association of Food Technologist (IAFT/PATPI). The AEFS 2019 program consists of the interactive presentation sessions, keynote speaking and social events including networking dinner and post-conference tour.
