Abstract

This volume contains the Proceedings of the First Workshop on Synchronous Languages, Applications, and Programming (SLAP'2002). The Workshop was held in Grenoble, France, on April 13, 2002, as a satellite event to the Fifth European Joint Conference on Theory and Practice of Software (ETAPS'2002).This workshop is a more formally organized counterpart of the informalWorkshop on Synchronous Programming, held each year in December, since 1994, where research results as well as ongoing work are presented without peer review, and without publication. In contrast, for SLAP, we organised a peer review process, and publication as a volume of ENTCS. After the success of SLAP'2002, we hope that the SLAP workshop will continue to be held yearly, and will eventually become an established and renowned conference. We received 16 papers, of which we accepted 13 for presentation. The submitted papers came from 4 different continents! The papers were evaluated by the following programme committee:Albert BenvenisteIrisa Rennes, FranceGérard BerryEsterel Technologies, FrancePaul CaspiVerimag, FranceStephen EdwardsColumbia University, New-York, USAAlain GiraultInria Rh▪ne-Alpes, FrancePaul Le GuernicIrisa Rennes, FranceFlorence MaraninchiVerimag, FranceChristophe MaurasIrccyn Nantes, FranceSophie PinchinatIrisa Rennes, FranceÉric RuttenInria Rho▪ne-Alpes, FranceEllen SentovichCadence Berkeley Lab, Berkeley, USAOut of the 16 submissions, the programme committee decided to accept a large number, in order to provide authors with the opportunity to present even preliminary results, while giving full time and paper length only to the more mature work.We would like to thank all the authors, the referees, and the participants. We will do our best to make SLAP the place where various works related to synchronous software or systems can be presented and discussed.
