Abstract

Background: Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HF-PEF) is common and portends poor prognosis. Predictors of mortality are not well defined among urban blacks Methods: data were collected on all AA patients admitted with the diagnosis of HF to a large acute care hospital serving predominantly urban blacks between January 2007 and May 2007 (n= 514). Patients with echo determined LVEF >0.50 were selected for this analysis (n= 202) and the outcome of 24 month mortality was determined. Multiple clinical and laboratory variables were entered into multivariate logistic regression model to determine independent predictors of mortality after discharge.
