Abstract

Longitudinal data from 139 unselected children given the WPPSI at 4½ years and WISC‐R at 8½ years are used to investigate the predictive validity of short forms of the WPPSI formed by summing scaled scores of fewer than 10 subtests. Predictive validity increases asymptotically with number of subtests in the short form. The particular combination of subtests constituting a short form of given length does not appear to significantly affect predictive validity. Regression coefficients are provided to enable the reader to estimate future IQ from a given short form score.
