Abstract
A model which requires prior calibration on prototype measurements can not be used as a predictive model. In a predictive model, the model parameters are determined on the basis of measurable or quantifiable variables, mostly through empirical relations. This paper describes such relations for a predictive steady-state salt intrusion model in alluvial estuaries. The method has been successfully applied to 45 salt intrusion measurements in 15 estuaries worldwide.
