Abstract

Background: It has been reported that exercise capacity has correlation with nutrition status in chronic heart failure (CHF) patients, it is uncertain which of nutritional parameters in serum can be a predictive factor of exercise capacity. Purpose: To investigate relation between predictive factors of exercise capacity (VE/VO2, peak VO2) and nutritional parameters in serum (albumin(Alb), prealbumin(PA), cholinesterase(ChE), transferrin(Tf)) in CHF patients. Methods and Results: We studied a total 132 of CHF cases in stable condition (mean age 69.2 years old±11.2, men 103, BMI 24.2 ± 4.2), which performed cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPX). Then we analyzed the predictive factors of their CPX data (VE/VO2, peak VO2) and nutritional parameters in serum (Alb, PA, ChE, Tf). Although the other nutrition parameters showed no significant differences, ChE indicated a significant correlation to predictive factors in CPX (VE/VO2(Pearson correlation coefficient = 0.351, P < .05), peak VO2 (Pearson correlation coefficient = 0.386, P < .05). Conclusion: ChE may be a predictive factor of exercise capacity of CHF patients in stable condition.
