Abstract

Background: A decision to perform a mastectomy for breast cancer is conventionally based on tumour characteristics (size, multifocality, location, histology) although patient characteristics (age, method of presentation), can influence the decision. This audit sought to examine the possible predictive factors for a mastectomy at the point of initial presentation to the Cambridge Breast Unit patients from 2004–2007.
