Abstract

This paper presents a deadbeat-like predictive encoderless control method for back-to-back power converter permanent-magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) wind turbine systems with Extended Kalman Filter (EKF). The generator state variables are estimated through an EKF observer requiring neither the knowledge of mechanical parameters nor the initial position of the rotor. The estimated speed and position are fed into a deadbeat predictive controller using SVM. The grid side control is realized by a deadbeat predictive power controller requiring little tuning efforts. Both the estimator and predictive controllers are implemented on a fully FPGA based platform, using the single-cycle-timed-loop technique, achieving very short calculating time. The effectiveness of the presented method is verified with experimental data.
