Abstract

The decision about the therapeutic treatment of an individual tumor is made on the basis of the localization and the clinical as well as the histopathological staging. However, very different responses to such a treatment are observed for tumors with the same clinical and histopathological stage. From this general clinical expe rience it can be concluded that these tumors differ very much in their individual biological characteristics, which are relevant for the therapeutic response, and more biological data are needed in order to improve the selection of the appropriate therapeutic modality on an individual basis as well as to obtain better prognostic factors [1, 2].
