Abstract

The simulated results have provided great insight into the behavior of radiation patterns as the antenna is moved around the aircraft. The information gained through these simulations provides greater confidence when new locations must be found for the VHF antennas. More work needs to be done to further refine the 3D model that is used, taking into account fairings, composite materials and windows. Further work on co-site interactions between multiple VHF systems continues. Similar analysis is expanded to higher frequencies, such as UHF and L-band, encompassing all navigation, communication and special mission antennas. Successfully integrating 50 to 70 antennas on a small structure is extremely challenging. EM analysis helps ensure that maximum performance can be obtained across all the systems.
