Abstract

Surface (interface) stress is a very important physical quantity for metallic elements. Determining the expression of f value is beneficial for us to understand the surface and interface phenomenon. Based on a previous work, the analytical expression of f for metal crystals is developed by introducing the bulk evaporation entropy Sb, which is a measurable quantity. The calculations are in good agreement with the available experimental and theoretical results. We also found that f is proportional to the melting enthalpy Hm and inversely proportional to the atomic diameter h and the compressibility κ. This relationship holds for both surface and interface case.
