Abstract

Team based organization has become more widespread because of rapidly changing environment. The way to form a team and therefore improve team performance has become an important topic. Limited amount of studies have focused on forecasting team performance based on individual behaviors. If one's future team behavior and performance can be identified, it is beneficial for the process of human resource planning, recruitment, and training. This study aims to use data mining approach on the prediction of team performance and members' interaction based on individual personality traits. Using undergraduates' Big Five personality traits, we established neural network models in order to predict their team performance and members' interaction. We found that neural network can effectively predict team performance with the accuracy rate over 99%. It also correctly predicts members' interaction in more than 72% of cases. Our findings potentially contribute to the development of human resource management academically and practically.
