Abstract

Binary and ternary borate glasses were melted and examined to determine the immiscibility temperature for phase separation in each system. The critical temperatures of binary borate glasses are compared to the predicted critical temperatures from the Debye-Hückel model as developed for phase separated glasses and melts. When the anion structural unit is assumed to be a BO 4 − unit with a particular interionic spacing, the results agree very well with the Debye-Hückel predictions.
