Abstract

Average oil saturation in fibrous bed coalescer has been measured experimentally using pulse response technique. Comparable results were obtained with saturation values obtained under steady-state condition. The experimental technique involved the injection of small amount of toluene-water dispersion in the upstream side of the coalescer and following the inlet and outlet concentration count for this dispersion. As a result of this work a coalescence rate constant, k, could be measured which gives an indication of the rate of coalescence in the bed.
